c) Open Air-Burning/Bonfires
What is Open Air-Burning?
Open air-burning means lighting a fire.
Open air-burning is divided into three areas: Urban, Residential and Rural (this is under the Open Air-Burning Local Law in 2007).
The reason why this law is so important is because:
- Control the use of open burning
- Notifying the council when you are burning off
- Minimising bush fire risk (fuel reduction, recycling)
Why do some people have a problem with an Open Air-Burning fire?
- Not being notified by the council or next door neighbour that they are lighting a fire (this could lead them to call 000)
- Smoke nuisance cause both to the environment and neighbours
- Not burning off the right things (dead animals, paint/paint containers, oils, toxic cans)
